Up against the riddle in the dead of the night
My thoughts a suffocating overdrive
Should I take it further and or take to flight
Was it the meal of indigestible lies?

Was it the neighbours radiating favours
From the wireless LAN and cordless phone?
Was it my bed or it’s something that I said, hey?

Cut in the dream of a desperate fight
Council from the Devil, then I said he can’t be right
My soul he freeze, bring me to my knees
Eyes the size of footballs and I feel like shite

Was it the neighbours raucous entertainers
Or the bread with the furry green skin?
Was it my bed or something that you said, hey?

Am I gonna sink or swim?
Can I make it to the other side?
If you’d only let me in – we could save the day
We could save the day

We could save the day

She was always one who would do it – do it right
Now we’re in the middle of a landslide
If I can’t get no sleep – by a million sheep
Might have to pay my dues and let it explode

Was it the neighbours’ sex at 3 behaviour
Or the news of the world on the brink?
Please excuse the vent – I’m feeling pretty tense

Am I gonna…..

ABOUT SINK OR SWIM

It is very frustrating when you have insomnia and can’t pinpoint the cause.  Although not a serious case, I suffered from disturbed sleep for a few years and tried everything possible to get it sorted. I couldn’t put it down to one solution. It got better though… 🙂

OVERCOME

When troubles come around
Don’t worry – our spirit – cannot be – defeated
Like towering walls so high
In this time – we can climb – overcome – the darkness
We’ll find the light inside
We unite – we can fight – say goodbye – to demons

When joy seems far away
Don’t worry – our spirit – cannot be – defeated
The suffering voice subsides
‘Cos this time – we shall climb – overcome – the darkness
Let’s join to find the light

Oh brothers – and sisters – say goodbye – to demons
Oh brothers – and sisters – say goodbye – to demons

The path of courage shines
Don’t worry – our spirit – cannot be – defeated
Let’s forge our life’s designs
In this time – we shall climb – overcome – the darkness
In friendship joy resides

Oh brothers – and sisters – say goodbye – to demons
Oh brothers – and sisters – say welcome – to freedom
Oh brothers – and sisters – say welcome – to freedom
Oh brothers – and sisters – say welcome – to freedom

In the Buddhist organisation I have been active with over the years, members were once offered the chance of writing a song to the sun has a kind of anthem for the European youth division. It was to be something that anyone would find singable regardless of any lack of musical talent, and that reflected all the tenets of a hope giving Buddhist philosophy in a few words and notes. I applied with this song which didn’t get chosen but it expanded my repertoire of compositions. More importantly, I had fun doing it!

Spring is here again the
world is turning green my
eyes are filled with psychacolour

People open up their
doors and blink up at the
sun that fills my head with lightness

Let’s go a little bonkers
The last time it was donkeys’ years
And dance a little northern sambaramba
Midnight summer madness
My heart beats with gladness
I’m dancing a little funky sambaramba

Pasty faces symbol-
ize the places we have
tried to handle all the winter

Mesmorizing sunny
Skies are blinding where’s the
Shade I’m not that into cancer

Let’s go a little bonkers
The last time it was donkeys’ years
And dance a little northern sambaramba
Midnight summer madness
My heart fills with gladness
I’m dancing a little funky sambaramba

Ba da ba da…

The angle of the bio-
sphere is making me feel queer
but then I kinda like it

Birds are singing and the
Parks are swinging and the
Days are spinning out their magic

Ba da ba da…

Yeah let’s……

Northern Sambaramba oh yeah!  rpt.

ABOUT NORTHERN SAMBARAMBA

In Brazil the lighter side of life is so light you could start floating upwards! Samba brings out the passion for rhythm and dance, afflicting probably any Brazilian in the vicinity. In more northern climes people can often be much more reserved and stiff. Without alcohol, fear of looking stupid whilst dancing, especially when one has to be the 1st, acts like a wheel clamp.

Doesn't have to be so…

I wrote this song after summoning up enough courage to be that Pioneer, to let loose in front of a crowd of about 100 foot-tappers. I say foot-tappers because despite the grooves of the vibrant funk and soul band, that was all we allowed ourselves to do despite 2 hours of beer. It was hard (and I wasn't drunk) but I couldn't accept the crazy situation and refused to listen to that voice of fear telling me that I was going to ridicule myself. So I asked myself, “what is the worst that could happen to me?" And moved forward into the unknown.

The experience was so liberating that it led me to writing this song. As a Brit living in Germany, I know us northerners have got the samba (lust for life) in us, too and don't need to be scared to show it, even if it means being the 1st to take the lead. Even if we are the most uncoordinated movers on earth. In fact we tend to win respect as a result of jumping the hurdle and doing those ungainly bobs and gyrations for all to see. As I expected, within minutes of my example, there was a crowd of enthusiastic groovers beside me!
