Show me the mystery, show me the mystery
Show me the mystery to set me free
Show me the mystery, show me the mystery
Show me the mystery to set me free, yeah
Energy’s not made nor destroyed
But when I’m with my love it comes a flowin‘ out the void
Like the roses on the hillside blown
by winds of no domain
You’re like the sunset song, ocean wide
Sounds of the birth of a day
Show me the mystery……..
The earth is spinning faster all the time
Mesmorize the moments of this spiral space and time
Like the waves in the grass, grace of a deer
Fire of an autumn tree ablaze
Mesmorize the moments of
This spiral space and time
Show me now the place where I belong
Show me now the earth that gave me life and made me strong
Like the road to the stars, scent on the breeze
Icy diamonds in the snow
Eyes of an owl, rushing stream
Sounds of a bird on the wing
Show me the mystery……..
ABOUT SPIRAL
A Spanish man heard me playing this song once at a gig and said, "if Flamenco in English existed, this would be it!". That was a great compliment for me, although Flamenco is another ballgame, really. I love playing Flamenco, too and it is obviously a big influence here……
What's all this spiral stuff? Well, the spiral form exists all over the place in nature and in the universe. You can find it in plants, DNA, architecture and movements of solar systems. I also think that life is sometimes a bit like a spiral: we experience similar events over and over again but there is a development there. It's never quite the same. It is definitely not just a circle or cycle of events but the more conscious we are of cause and effect, the less we see a fatalistic cycle, and the more we see direction like that flowing in a spiral.
“Show me the mystery to set me free" seems like nonsense and is meant a bit provocatively. We tend to be chasing after illusions in our materialist world and can't see the beautiful things just in front of our noses. There is a crazy urge to try and transform nature into something better but try as we might we don't actually reach a solution because we are always dissatisfied after a short thrill. I'm not against technological progress when it is mainly driven by an intention to serve the people and to be used to empower. As a friend of mine once said, “human beings had to drag themselves out of the mud". But despite our amazing achievements technologically, have we managed to create more wisdom and compassion? Those qualities were around as soon as humans became aware of their own consciousness. If we look to our roots and see value in the primitive, meaning the beauty of simplicity and the gifts in nature, we start to free ourselves from the progress drug. As always a good question to ask is: what are the costs and benefits?
The universe is is amazingly beautiful and intricate. I love experiencing mountains, deserts, oceans, creatures, sunlight, stars, forests…… There are so many fascinating patterns and subtle interactions to learn from without necessarily having to change anything! Freedom is to be found inside, otherwise it will always evade us.
