Tick tock, tick tock……

It’s a one way cheap flight to the other side
Cos the grass is always greener over there
But the storms keep coming and the people stick their heads in the sand
It’s the wrong way – why can’t we break away
While we’ve still got a grain of a chance
Cos the chances of moving to Mars are smaller than a snowflake drifting through the sun

Look at me and my sun-tan. I just been down to Thailand
It cost me $400 which is slightly steep
But I think of the cost a livin there and I cease to weep yeah
Oh they’ve got some nice temples there where I could purify my hair
It rained too much for me but they don’t seem to care

Don’t rock the boat!
– The boat’s already
Don’t rock the boat!
Shh! – The boat’s already
Don’t rock the boat….
–the boat’s already ssssinking

It’s a……….

Look at me and my bargain fags. I just got back from Malta on Happy Jet
The turbulence of the air was quite a drag
At least they could’ve given me a second sick-bag
Oh the flight cost 15 pounds
But with airport tax that makes it almost out of bounds
Altogether that makes 30 pounds
What was that Gary? No it’s your bloody round!

Don’t rock the boat!
– But we still may get afloat  etc.

It’s a one way cheap flight to the other side
Cos the grass is always greener over there
But the storms keep coming and the people stick their heads in the sand
It’s the wrong way – why can’t we break away
While we still gotta grain of a chance
Cos the chances of moving to Mars are smaller than a snowflake drifting,
Smaller than a snowflake drifting, drifting through the sun.
Drifting through the sun

Look at me on ze rooftop. Ze water level’s rising but to drink zere’s not a drop.
Zere’s conflict on ze coast and ze starving can’t swim
I guess zat’s what is meant by living through sick and sin
Oh why could zis not have been prevented?
Are governments really to blame or are we all just demented?
Am I a victim or a maker of ze future? rpt
Are we all victims or creators of ze future? rpt
Do we wanna be victims or creators of ze future?
Where’s the thanks for all the gifts from Mother Nature rpt
Let’s give something back to Mother Nature rpt
Let’s stand together and give back to Mother Nature, Nature rpt.

(Victims or Creators rpt)

Where’s the boat?
– the boat’s already sss. rpt.

(Background): Victims or creators? Victims or creators?…….rpt.

Where’s the fucking rescue boat!

ABOUT CHEAP FLIGHT

Have you ever heard somebody complaining about a cheap package holiday or that a flight costing £50 from London to the Canaries was too cramped and had no free food or drinks….? This seems to me like rubbing salt into the wounds of the Earth when 1) so many expect services and goods which cost the earth in resource and pollution terms (much more than bus and train), to be had for next to nothing, and 2) the notion exists that they should be treated like kings and queens (please see Developing Gratitude and Living Responsibly for stories and expansions of this topic). That gave me an excuse to do a rant in theatrical form as Cheap Flight! For the record, I flew only for the first time in 10 years from Germany to Scotland recently because there were no reasonable rail tickets left and the bus company treats you like an idiot!

I got this song down pretty much over the course of a few days prior to the nitty-gritty work of proper production. On one of these days I was completely in a flow of ideas and concentration and wrote the 1st verse: “look at me and my suntan: I’ve just been down to Thailand”. The point here is how a suntan maybe one of the principal aims in life to feel accepted by others or hope to do so. 5 min later I checked my e-mails saw one from a woman I had met in Spain one and a half years previously. I hadn’t kept in contact with her since so had no idea of her whereabouts. In the subject line I read: “hello from Thailand” and in the message: “I feel super duper, I am almost black”!

Cheap Flight describes 3 characters: an American, Brit and German (I hope you can identify each one!). The 1st two are complainers in a time of plenty. The 3rd comes to a realisation in the thick of global warming calamities as to what damage we have done and are doing: he recognises a culture of thanklessness, even though it is late in the day it is better to understand the nature of the universe.

More on this and my amazing bus journeys here!
